What is Pharmacy First?
From January 2024 you can receive professional health care advice, treatment and medicine for several common illnesses without the need to visit your GP.
Skip the morning rush, queues and the need of a GP appointment, go to your Pharmacy First.
What Conditions are included in the Scheme?
The seven conditions covered are:
- Sinusitis
- Sore Throat
- Earache
- Infected Insect Bite
- Impetigo
- Shingles
- UTI (Cystitis)
What do I need to be eligible to get advice from the pharmacists?
You must be within the age range described below for the condition you would like to get assessment for. Once you book an appointment, our pharmacists will ask you additional questions to decide whether you qualify to be treated at the pharmacy or if you will need further referral to other healthcare provider.

| Sinusitis | 12 years and over |
| Sore Throat | 5 years and over |
| Ear Infection (Otitis) | 1 to 17 years |
Can I get remote advice for all seven conditions?
The service can be delivered remotely for six of the seven conditions excluding earache, providing there is the ability to conduct a face-to-face assessment either in person or via a “good quality” video consultation if necessary.
What happens if the pharmacists can’t help me?
If the pharmacist feels they are unable to help with the condition the patient presents with, the patient should be signposted to an appropriate service, which could be their GP or A&E.
